Desktop search for confidential work
Private document search that just works — no setup, no cloud, no AI to configure.
Fossick reads, indexes, and searches your contracts, tenders, and reports entirely on your own machine. It finds files by what they mean, not what they're named. Nothing is ever uploaded — not your documents, not a summary of them, not even while you search.

The proof, not the pitch
Pull the Wi-Fi. Search still works.
Don't take a privacy policy's word for it. Index a folder, run a search, then physically disconnect your machine from the internet and search again. Same results, same speed, because nothing was ever leaving the building in the first place.

How it works
Three steps. No configuration screens in between.
-
Point it at a folder
Choose the folders that matter — a case archive, a shared drive, years of tenders. Fossick only ever looks inside the folders you add.
-
It indexes, entirely on your machine
Every file is read and turned into a local semantic index using a small model that runs on your own CPU. No file, and no fragment of a file, ever leaves your computer.
-
Search by meaning, instantly
Describe what you're looking for the way you'd say it to a colleague. Fossick finds the right document even if you've forgotten the filename, the folder, or the exact wording.

Questions
Before you install
Is my data ever uploaded?
No. Indexing, embedding, and search all run as local processes on your machine — your documents, and any text extracted from them, never touch our servers or anyone else's. You don't have to take our word for it: turn off your Wi-Fi, run a search, and watch it still return results. That's the demo above, and you can repeat it yourself after installing.
What about scanned PDFs?
Fossick detects image-only (scanned) PDFs during indexing and skips them rather than guessing at their contents — you'll see exactly how many were skipped, so nothing goes missing silently. Text-based PDFs, Word documents, and other common formats are indexed today. OCR for scanned documents is a planned fast-follow, not a silent gap.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes, self-serve, from your account settings — no calls, no retention flow. Cancelling stops future billing, and you keep full access through the end of the period you've already paid for.
What's the difference between the Windows and Mac versions?
The Windows build checks for updates automatically and installs them in the background. The macOS build doesn't yet — we haven't completed Apple's notarization process, which auto-update on Mac requires — so until that's live, Mac users update by re-downloading the newest version from their account. Functionally the two builds are identical; this only affects how updates arrive.
Is it safe to install if it's unsigned?
Yes. Windows (SmartScreen) and Mac (Gatekeeper) both show a warning for applications from developers who haven't yet paid for a code signing certificate — that's a cost we're deferring until we've validated the product with real customers, not a sign of anything wrong with the app. We've written a short walkthrough with screenshots for the exact click-path on each platform.
